Honoring Men Who “Give Back”
Columbia, SC – What do a sheriff, an educator, a brigadier general, a medical doctor and a news
anchor all have in common? They, along with four other dynamic Midlands men, will be honored
at the 2014 IMARA Man Tribute reception, Monday, June 30th at 6pm at Palmetto Health Baptist
Auditorium.
IMARA Woman Magazine and Palmetto Health have teamed up to highlight the importance of men’s health to their families and communities by recognizing nine dedicated professionals who are living healthfully, succeeding in their respective careers and also giving back to their communities. The reception in recognition of the honorees will be a culminating event celebrating June as National Men’s Health Month. Palmetto Health is offering free men’s health screenings at the reception. The summer edition of IMARA Woman Magazine is dedicated this year’s honorees:
Anthony Broughton – Associate Director of Curriculum at Benedict College Child Development Center
Calvin Elam – Brigadier General and businessman
Dr. Percy A. Mack – Superintendent, Richland One School District
Kevin Rasberry – Author and founder of SC’s first single gender public school
Otis Cosby, MD – Physician Chief for Health and Well-being at Palmetto Health
Sheriff Anthony Dennis – Sumter County Sheriff
James Shadd, Esq. – Attorney and founder of Isaac’s Promise mentoring group
Lewis H. Nelson – Grand Master, Prince Hall Grand Lodge of South Carolina
Len Kiese – Morning News Anchor, WIS TV
“These honorees have demonstrated the leadership and character that the IMARA Man Tribute was
designed to recognize,” says Wendy Brawley, CEO of IMARA Woman Magazine. “Highlighting their
accomplishments shines a light on positive role models for our young black males, and gives them
a visual appreciation of the importance our men have in our communities.” The theme for the 2014
IMARA Man Tribute is, “Good Health is Wealth”. Reception attendees will also participate in the live audience taping of IMARA’s TV show.
The reception is free, but space is limited and attendees should RSVP at (803) 252-0647. To register
for a free health screening, call Palmetto Health at 803-296-CARE (2273).
